One day tours in Sigiriya with Sanjaya Tours Sri Lanka

One Day Tours

We offer the opportunity for our clients to experience a one day tour or to build a tour on several one day itineraries.

If you are staying in Sigiriya the following day tours are available:

1. Pick up at your Sigiriya hotel at 6.00 am (or as arranged) for a morning climb of the UNESCO Heritage site of Sigiriya or "Lion's Rock". Tourists come from all over the world to Sri Lanka to admire and climb Sigiriya Lion rock. Half way up the rock you can see the frescoes of young women in the Tantric Buddhist tradition. The ruins of the palace on the top of Sigiriya can be seen after you enter through the remains of an enormous pair of lion's paws. Your private guide will accompany you on your climb.

In the afternoon we will visit Dambulla, a network of five caves that date back to the 1st century and house over 150 Buddha statues including a 15m-long reclining Buddha in the first cave. A very special place to see on your Sri Lanka holiday.

Return to your hotel at approximately 5.00 pm

2. Pick up at your Sigiriya hotel at 8.30 am (or as arranged) and visit Anuradhapura, the first capital of Sri Lanka dating back to 280BC. Giant dagobas are strikingly serene and reminiscent of the Pyramids of Giza. The remains from palaces, temples, monasteries and ceremonial baths can be seen at this site. There is also an active temple where you can see people in prayer and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Buddhists come to see the weighty boughs of the world's oldest tree, the Sri Maha Bodhi, grown from a cutting of the tree under which the Buddha found enlightenment, which now rests on golden scaffolding. Today, monks and pilgrims move quietly around the temples and gardens. This UNESCO heritage site is one of the top tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

In the afternoon we will arrange a jeep safari to Wilpattu National Park where, depending on the season you will see a wide range of Sri Lanka wildlife that could include leopards, sloth bear, crocodiles and abundant birds. Having a private guide accompany you on your wildlife safari enhances the experience as your guide will work with the driver to spot wildlife.

Return to your hotel at approximately 6.00 pm

3. Pick up at your Sigiriya hotel at 8.30 am (or as arranged) to see the third UNESCO Heritage site in the area, Polonnaruwa which was the second capital of ancient Sri Lanka and is home to some of the country's most preserved architecture from around 1000 AD. In particular do not miss the Sandakada pahana, or Moon Stone, a semi circle, entry stone with an intricately carved wheel of life. Polonnaruwa is a must-see for a Sri Lanka tourist.

In the afternoon we will arrange a jeep safari to either Kaudulla National Park or Minneriya National Park, depending where the elephants are gathering. Sri Lanka has the largest density of wild elephants in Asia. An elephant safari in Sri Lanka is an unforgettable experience.

Return to your hotel at approximately 6.00 pm.
